A semi truck with the keys locked in the cab, or with no key at all, is stuck wherever it stopped, whether that is a yard, a loading dock, or a truck stop. We are a mobile locksmith, so we come to where the truck is parked. We open locked cabs and make new keys for Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, and International trucks, and for Hino and Isuzu trucks, across metro Atlanta.
Why a truck waiting on a key costs driving time
Federal hours-of-service rules say a driver hauling property may not drive after 14 consecutive hours from coming on duty. A truck sitting in a lot while the driver waits on a key is time inside that window. Towing a tractor to a dealer for a new key adds a tow to the wait. Our technicians come to the truck instead and do the work where it is parked.
Locked out of the cab
Keys left in the ignition, on the seat, or in the sleeper with the doors locked make a lockout. No key has to be cut and nothing has to be replaced. We open the cab without damage, using tools made for the job, and the driver gets back in with the keys already in the truck. A truck lockout with us starts at $89.
A truck door, like a car door, holds the window glass, the lock, and the latch, and on trucks with power locks and windows, their wiring too. Anything pushed into that space blind is working right next to all of it, which is why opening it is a job for a professional.
Lost truck keys, or down to the last one
If every key is gone, we can make and program a new key from scratch, right where the truck is parked, with no tow to a dealership. The technician cuts the key to the truck's locks, programs it if the truck needs that, and tests it before the job is finished.
A spare is a quicker job than a first key made from scratch, so a truck that is down to a single key is worth a spare while that key still works.
Before any key work, we check a photo ID and proof of ownership: the registration, insurance card, title, or bill of sale. If the truck is registered to a company, tell us when you call.
Keys, chips, and fobs on newer trucks
Truck keys vary with the make, model, and year. Some only need to be cut to the locks. Others carry a chip or come with a remote fob, and those also have to be programmed or paired to the truck. Freightliner, for example, ships its New Cascadia with remote keyless entry fobs that lock and unlock the doors and can roll down the windows, and each fob has to be paired with the truck.
Tell us the make, model, and year when you call, so the technician arrives ready for that job.
