Car Key Replacement Cost in Atlanta: What You'll Pay by Key Type and Make

With us, a replacement car key in metro Atlanta starts at $129, and the type of key and the make of the car decide how far above that it goes. For most Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia models, a regular replacement key starts at $129, a remote key or fob at $159, and a push-to-start smart key at $189. A dealership often charges $400 to $1,000 or more for a fob, and the car has to get to the dealer first.

What each type of car key costs

Transponder keys are common on today's cars: a chip in the head of the key that the car has to recognize before the engine will start. So a new key is two jobs. We cut the blade to match your locks, then program the chip to the car. Remote keys and smart keys add lock buttons or push-to-start, and they start at higher prices.

Key type What it is Starting price
Regular car key A metal blade, usually with a transponder chip in the head. Starting at $129
Remote key or key fob The lock buttons and the key in one piece, often with a blade that flips out. Starting at $159
Smart key (push-to-start) Stays in your pocket or bag. The car senses it, and you start the engine with a button. Starting at $189
Programming only You already have a key or fob, and it needs to be programmed to the car. Starting at $99

These starting prices apply to most domestic, Japanese, and Korean makes. The model and year can move them, and we confirm the final price at the car before any work starts. Every published price is on our pricing page.

What if you lost every key?

We can make and program a new key from scratch for your vehicle, even if you have lost your only key. The technician comes to where the car is parked, does the programming on-site, and tests the new key before the job is finished, with no tow to a dealership.

Before any key work, we check a photo ID and proof that the car is yours: the registration, insurance card, title, or bill of sale.

What a dealership charges

A dealership often charges $400 to $1,000 or more for a key fob. When every key is lost, the car cannot be driven there, so the dealer route starts with a tow truck.

We come to the car instead. We cut and program the key where the car is parked, and our average arrival across metro Atlanta is 15 to 30 minutes.

Before you call

  • Make a spare while you still have a key that works. A spare is a quicker job than a first key made from scratch.
  • Have the year, make, model, and VIN ready. The VIN helps us arrive with the right blank already on the van.
